- Prepares the drugs, the material and the equipment necessary for the accomplishment of the anaesthesia.

- Assists with the induction and the maintenance of the anaesthesia according to the technique chosen by the anaesthesiologist, in compliance with the existing rules of hygiene.

- Assists with the continuous monitoring of the patient.
- Assists with the transfer and the installation of the patient in the recovery room.
 
- Transmits the necessary information to the recovery room nurse or other designated personnel, if any.

- Evaluates pain and follows the established analgesia treatment protocols.

- Allows the return of the patient to the ward after consultation with an anaesthesiologist.
- Sets up, follows and controls the stock of material of anaesthesia.

- Supervises the hygiene and the integrity of the anaesthesia material: decontamination, sterilization, storage….etc

- Cleans stocks and organizes the anaesthesia station between each patient.

- Orders pharmacy supplies as needed.
- Uses protective measures to avoid cross-infections.

- Understands that reusable and “single use only” anaesthetic circuits (with the appropriate filtration devices) can be used for a complete operating session without being changed between each patient.

- Places always a bacterial/viral filter between the circuit and the catheter mount /airway device (patient end of the circuit).

- Discards used bacterial/viral filters after each case.

- Changes or cleans all medical devices in direct contact with the patient after each case.

- Understands that “Single Use Only” products are discarded and multi-use products are cleaned and disinfected.

- Changes all microbiological filters each week.

- Cleans the external surfaces of the anaesthesia equipment, including circuits, between cases according to the MSF protocol.

- Pays particular attention to the proper use and disposal of syringes and needles. No syringe or needle is used for more than one patient.

- Knows and follows the blood exposure protocols in the event of blood contamination.
